Because a gradient never competes with what is on top of it. With no subject, the clock, widgets and app icons stay readable at every position, and the wallpaper looks the same whether iOS or Android crops it for the Lock Screen or the Home Screen. It is also the easiest way to match a phone case or a color theme: Deep Plum, Emerald Hues and Cool Steel each hold one hue from top to bottom.

They should not. Banding, the visible steps in a fade, usually comes from a low-quality source such as a re-shared screenshot or a heavily compressed image. The ScreenLux gradients are delivered as full-resolution 1080 × 2400 stills straight from the catalog. Long fades such as Daybreak Gradient and Cloudy Gradient are the ones to check first; if you do see steps, make sure your phone is not in a reduced-color or power-saving display mode.

Not at the moment. All 51 gradient wallpapers are stills, which is intentional: a fade has nothing to animate, and a still is the lighter, more predictable choice for the Home Screen.
